What is the Foreign Medical Program?

The VA Foreign Medical Program (FMP) covers medically necessary care for your service-connected conditions when you live outside the United States — Costa Rica and Nicaragua included. You don't even need to be enrolled in VA health care to use it. Most veterans have simply never been told it exists.

Eligibility

Who qualifies

A straight answer

What it covers — and what it doesn't

FMP covers care for your service-connected conditions and conditions the VA links to them. It is not blanket coverage — it won't pay for routine care unrelated to your service.

The first step is to check your FMP benefits letter on VA.gov to see exactly what you're covered for. Not sure how to read it? That's exactly what we help with.

How we help

We help U.S. veterans in Costa Rica and Nicaragua make sense of the Foreign Medical Program:

No charge. No obligation. Whether or not you ever become our patient.

Why trust us

Real people, straight answers

Veterans Pharmacy is run by Lia, a licensed pharmacist with 30 years of experience, and her team. Alongside her, Aída, a certified medical biller, handles the VA paperwork and billing so you don't have to. Together they've spent nearly two decades helping U.S. veterans with their VA benefits in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. We think veterans deserve a straight answer, not a sales pitch.
